How to Start a T-Shirt Business

If you're a creative person who's tired of working for someone else, why not go into business for yourself? One great business idea is a T-shirt business. Novelty T-shirts are all the rage these days, and although there are lots of popular T-shirts already on the market, there's always room for more!

You may be wondering exactly how to start a T-shirt business. It's not as hard as you might think! The first thing you'll want to do is take care of all necessary business licenses. Next, figure out how you want to create your T-shirts. There are several ways you can create customized T-shirts.

One option is creating the shirts yourself. You'll need a variety of plain T-shirts, a software program like Photoshop, a photo printer, and iron on paper so you can transfer your design from the page to each shirt. This is a time consuming and potentially expensive option, but if you're serious about creating your own shirts from start to finish, then you may want to do things this way. Eventually, you might have to outsource the creation of your shirts if your business gets too big, which is what every business owner wants!

A second option that can save you a huge amount of time and money is utilizing a service such as Cafe Press. It's simple -- you simply upload your original designs and choose what kind of T-shirts you want them to appear on. You can choose different styles and colors. You simply position your design on the shirt virtually, and save. You can place your shirts for sale at the Cafe Press Marketplace, and when you get an order, Cafe Press actually creates your shirt for you and can ship it to your customer. The only downside to this is pricing -- you don't have a lot of control over your prices and your customers will pay at least $15 for one of your shirts.

A T-shirt business can be a really fun and lucrative way to make a living. You can sell your shirts online, or market them to retail stores! Try selling your creations at fairs and festivals as well, where you can rent a booth for a small fee. With some work and lots of creative thinking, you can be the owner of a lucrative T-shirt business!
